People ask me why I started The Calm Seas Project. The honest answer: it began as an idea among friends on a fishing trip. We were out on the water, and we realized something a lot of veterans already know. Sometimes the most meaningful conversations happen on the water.

The Calm Seas Project was founded on that belief. In our first four months, the nonprofit raised more than $40,000 to support veterans and first responders. I'm humbled by everyone who believed in the idea that early.

More than fishing

What we do is not simply fishing. It's about bringing veterans and first responders back together, rebuilding connections, supporting mental wellness through shared experiences on the water, and reminding them they're never alone.

Where we've been and where we're going

In April 2026 we hosted a Marine Raider Reunion in Pensacola, held in honor of a fallen Marine Raider brother. Next up is a veterans fishing event in Jacksonville, Florida, on November 6–8, 2026, with eight military veterans.

If you want to learn more or support the mission, visit calmseasproject.org or follow @calmseasproject. Thanks to everyone who has volunteered, donated, or just shown up.
