We're a few weeks out from our next Calm Seas Project trip, and I get asked the same question a lot: "How can I help?" Here's a quick refresher on what we do and three ways you can be part of it.
What The Calm Seas Project does
The Calm Seas Project, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that offers all-expenses-paid fishing and diving excursions for veterans and first responders facing PTSD and mental health struggles. It started as an idea among friends on a fishing trip, built on a simple belief: sometimes the most meaningful conversations happen on the water. In our first four months, we raised more than $40,000 to support veterans and first responders.
It's not simply about fishing. It's about bringing people back together, rebuilding connections, supporting mental wellness through shared time on the water, and reminding every guest that they're never alone.
Where we've been, and what's next
In April 2026 we hosted a Marine Raider Reunion in Pensacola, held in honor of a fallen Marine Raider brother. Next up is our veterans fishing weekend in Jacksonville, Florida, on November 6–8, 2026, with eight military veterans.
Three ways to help
- Give. Every trip is all-expenses-paid for our guests, so donations go directly to getting veterans and first responders on the water. You can give at calmseasproject.org.
- Spread the word. Follow @calmseasproject and share our posts. Someone in your circle may know a veteran or first responder who needs a weekend like this.
- Know someone who should come? If you know a veteran or first responder who's struggling, point them to calmseasproject.org. Sometimes a day on the water is the first step.
Thank you to everyone who has already volunteered, donated, or just shown up. I'll post an update from Jacksonville after the November trip.
